The International Desert Challenge Race is off and running!

The International Desert Challenge Race is off and running!

Challenging footraces, bicycle racing and an open campground, activities and attractions for children, music and high spirits – the Tamar Local Council invites extreme sportsmen and sportswomen, and their families, to another gathering combining an exciting sporting experience and breathtaking desert vistas.

Each year, the Desert Challenge Event brings hundreds of runners and cyclists together. This year, for the first time, the Desert Challenge event invites the runners and bike riders, along with their families, to enjoy a unique festive site in Wadi Heimar, where the various races will start.

The event will take place on Friday and Saturday, December 17-18, 2010:
Friday, December 17, 2010 – moonlit runs along various 14-km and 24-km tracks, through Wadi Pratzim, passed the Flour Cave and along Mishor Amiaz.

Saturday, December 18 2010 – bicycle races, with three separate competitions of 23 km, 46 km and 69 km, in the enchanted landscapes of Wadi Pratzim, the Flour Cave and Mishor Amiaz.

The Desert Challenge site will feature a wide variety of activities for the whole family:
• A big, open and colorful campground
• Activities and attractions for children
• A large bar with soft and alcoholic drinks
• A communal dinner
• A moonlit party, featuring an open bar and a bonfire

In addition, the site will provide a variety of facilities for the enjoyment of competitors and visitors, such as: showers, shady spots, kiosks and toilets.

The Dead Sea is competing against 27 other natural sites around the world in the final of the New7Wonders of Nature competition. Winning the competition and becoming one of the New7Wonders of Nature will enable this unique region to receive the international recognition that it deserves.
