Even in ancient times, the Dead Sea was the focus of important events: In the Bible, Abraham, the father of Isaac and Ishmael, rescued his nephew, Lot, from Sodom and Gomorrah, minutes before the wicked cities were demolished by divine punishment; King David fled from the wrath of Saul to the Dead Sea region, and the heroic tale of Masada took place by the Dead Sea.

Tour the Dead Sea 2011 pedals the Dead Sea to the finals of the New 7Wonders of Nature
The fifth annual Tour de Dead Sea cycle race will pedal along the coast of the Dead Sea on March 5th, 2011. Over one thousand riders, amateurs and professionals from Israel, Jordan and overseas, will cycle this year in support of the Dead Sea's candidacy in the finals of the New 7Wonders of Nature global campaign. The event takes place at the lowest point on earth, where great historical significance meets breathtaking desert settings. Where the hilly Judean Desert slopes into the bottom of the Great Rift Valley.
