The Dead Sea scrolls, also known as the Qumran Scrolls or the Hidden Scrolls, are one of the most important archaeological discoveries ever made. Since their discovery, the Dead Sea scrolls have been a source of dispute among researchers, as well as a window into a long-lost world.

It was only a few months ago that the entire world followed, with bated breath, the fates of the 33 miners trapped by a rockfall in a copper and gold mine in northern Chile. The miners spent 69 harrowing days 700 meters underground, and around world we all watched anxiously and with great interest the live coverage of the successful rescue operation. A delegation of 25 of the miners who were rescued in Chile five months ago, their families, the governor of the Atacama region where the mine is located, and Chilean journalists, arrived in Israel at the end of February.

The Ein Gedi International Marathon is leaving the starting line on February 18 2011, for the 28th time, and this year it offers a surprising innovation. For the first time, it will include a special race in which participants will aim to cover not only distance but also, and more importantly, height.

The Baptism Site on the Jordan River, just north of the point where the Jordan flows into the Dead Sea, is the third holiest site in the Christian world, and is identified primarily as the place where Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist. Near the Baptism Site is the Monastery of John the Baptist, also known as "Qasr el Yahud" (the Palace of the Jews). As in previous years, on January 11, 2011, thousands of pilgrims will come to the Baptism Site and the Monastery from all over the world, to celebrate the Epiphany at the lowest spot in the world.
